Workshop Descriptions

Aerial Silks Workshop 1/2

"Movement technique, Crossback sequencing & Creativity on silks"

Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Prerequisites: Climb up, foot lock, hip key and inversion in the air

In this workshop, we will focus on the aerial dance technique essentials, so that we can move our body with precision, awareness, and with connection to our breath. The second part of the workshop will be devoted to sequence composition and tools for developing organic movement phrases.

We will be presented with several pathways in and out of a crossback position and creatively develop our own material upon that. We will play with the technique, juiciness and variability of inversions, as well as with the expressive potential of our body creating shapes and movement compositions in the air.

Tapping on the topic of belays too, the workshop will be a mix of deep quality technique work with artistic and creative spark upon it. We will also play with verticality, with climbs & descents - exploring the vertical axis of the silks in relation to space.

Aerial Silks Workshop 2/2

"Movement plasticity, spirals & wraps"

Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Prerequisites: Climb up, foot lock, hip key and inversion in the air

In this workshop, we will explore the idea of spirals and transitions which actively involve the use of our spine, joints and pelvic mobility. We will explore efficient work with our gravity center and breath, moving softly, with ease and release, so the class doesn't make us exhausted, but rather connected, energized and relaxed.

The class will be a play with wraps, knots, locks and sequences on silks, which will make us curious, playful and alive. The sequencing we will work on will focus on various, less traditional s-wrap entries & exits as well as on rolling.

We will include some interesting open silks sequencing and locks on our feet and hips, creating compositional parallels between them and developing our "silks brain" logic.

Aerial Hoop Workshop 1/2

"Dancing on the hoop"

Level: Intermediate and up
Prerequisites: Inversion up, sit-up into the hoop, basic poses

This aerial hoop workshop will aim at precision of our movement and the connection of breath with the movement, which we practice upon a variety of technical exercises and inspiring sequences – flows on hoop, including spinning (gentle or fast).

We will play with the idea of using "less hands", with imagery our body creates on hoop, as well as exploring qualities of movement dynamics, making our movement expression on aerial hoop more artistic and expressive, seemingly less technical and more dance-like.

Aerial Hoop Workshop 2/2

"Spinning, sequencing, stereotypes"

Level: Intermediate and up
Prerequisites: Inversion up, sit-up into the hoop, basic poses

This aerial hoop class will begin with preparatory technical exercises on aerial hoop, and follow up with organic movement flows, leading into basic principles of spinning.

This class will also include research based exercises which develop students' creativity, encouraging curiosity and self discovery through aerial movement – building and exploring their own relationship to aerial apparatus. These research parts teach us to go beyond our movement stereotypes, they teach us how to create inspiring sequences, and how to think about and develop choreographic composition and build an act, on aerial hoop or beyond.

About Ariadna Vendelova

Ariadna is an aerial dancer, performer and teacher from Slovakia, focusing on bringing the dance aspect into aerial acrobatic. She uses gentle, introspective and personal approach to aerial dance, while also emphasising the importance of clean and deeply rooted technique of movement.

She has taught aerial silks and hoop around festivals and studios in Europe: Budapest Aerial Meeting (HU), AEROSOMNIA Retreats (AU), Prague Aerial Convention (CZ), Les Rencontres De Danse Aerienne (FR), Aerial Arts Festival Austria (AU), Grazer AkrobatikFestival (AU), World Circus Day (SK), Žonglobalizace (CZ), and others.

As an artist, she has performed with her creations around Europe and beyond, working with artists from various artistic genres, being involved in aerial dance productions, short dance films, site-specific performance projects, musical concerts, and visual installations. Based in Košice, Slovakia, she is also supporting the growth of aerial dance and new circus community via Lalyra Company and Lalyra Academy.

Her Teaching Approach:

"My style is focused on finding fluidity of movement on any aerial apparatus, aiming to compose organic and creative sequences with natural transitions that not only look fluid, but are also energy efficient. My aerial classes try to show us how to move from within our center, with a spine connected to your floating pelvis and articulating joints, using the principles of spirals, efficient work with your gravity center, and breath.

We want to move softly, with ease and release, so the class doesn't make us exhausted, but rather connected, energized and relaxed. My approach within aerial dance is more somatic based, developing connection to your self while you deepen your aerial practice.

The goal of my classes is to eventually be able to find your own dance in the air, being able to express one self, while also growing strong roots to your body with clean technique. I try to bring dance to aerial acrobatics, and focus more on the quality of movement and expression and less on plane tricks."
